Tonight was a historic night for the blue brand, as SmackDown took second place behind Raw for longest-running weekly episodic television show, and it was a memorable show indeed.
SmackDown general manager Teddy Long was joined by interim Raw general manager John Laurinaitis as they announced the special occasion, and in celebration they made a 41-man battle royal, the largest in WWE history.
The winner of the 41-man battle royal would be granted a title shot of his choosing and receive that title shot in the main event of the evening.
