Maxine Quits WWE and Other Irrelevant Headlines of the Week

Posted by Big Nasty On June - 30 - 2012
While they may comprise of a smaller percentage of the overall wrestling audience, Internet dirt sheets have had a substantial influence on the culture of professional wrestling and, in turn, the death of kayfabe. However, with the over-saturation of news in the information age of today, a lot of unwarranted and uninteresting stories make their way through a system of news dissemination that has virtually no filter.  This week saw more heaping scoops of dirt sheet headlines that the wrestling world really could have done without. Begin Slideshow

5 More Things I Miss in Wrestling

Posted by Brent Turner On June - 30 - 2012
Well, Bleacher Creatures, it is time for another installment of the things that I miss in wrestling.  While this list usually generates quite a few comments, both good and bad, I appreciate you allowing me the opportunity to share my opinions with you.  The more of these that I do, the harder it gets to think about those moments that I witnessed in those years of my childhood.  It always helps me out when readers leave their comments, so I encourage you to do that, as I take the time to read each one.  Enjoy your weekend.  Begin Slideshow
I'm one of the maybe five percent of fans who believes that there is hope for the Divas Division in the WWE to get better. The odds are clearly stacked against me—the women have no characters, no screen time and definitely no support from their higher-ups.But just because the odds are stacked against me doesn't mean I can't break the barrier for those who think I'm delusional.Hear me out:I'm not going to give you all the ol' one-two about how the divas need investment, character growth and yada, yada. I actually believe the secret in reinvigorating the division is hidden ...
For several weeks now, the WWE has graced us with many greats from the past as they head towards their 1,000 episode of Raw.Some of these returns have been great, while others fell flat. Either way you slice it, the WWE has done their best to give us a trip down memory lane. Now, news is coming out that yet another Legend will be at this week's Raw.According to Raj Giri of WrestlingInc.com, "I have heard from a source that Diamond Dallas Page will be the 'Blast from the Past' Legend for this Monday's RAW."To date, every Legend that ...

Pointless Theory: An Interpretation of Ryback’s Squash Matches

Posted by Kaizar Cantu On June - 30 - 2012
I’m not a fan of squash-oriented long-term booking, especially in gargantuan promotions such as the WWE. My guess is that WWE competitors are paid very generous quantities. If the individual in question receives such amounts of money for squashing no-names in less than three minutes for months, then what a waste of money that is. Anyhow, Ryback’s flash demolition derbies are mildly entertaining. It is the equivalent of dropping live mice in a glass container occupied by your pet snake. He has slightly developed a technique to his stiff treatment of local talent. But that’s not the Ryback reading intended ...
According to Wrestlezone, current TNA (and former WWE) star Kurt Angle recently posted the following on Twitter: "I Whipped Robbie E in 40 Seconds. I'm The Best In Wrestling today. Not Orton or Cena or CM Punk. I Am the Best. And I'm TNA!" "I'm the Best Ever." I don't know how beating Robbie E (who has talent but is not a top-flight guy) in 40 seconds makes Kurt Angle the best in wrestling today.  I certainly don't think he is better than CM Punk right now (maybe Cena and possibly Orton).  Also, why did Angle decide to suddenly take a shot ...

WWE News: 5 Stars of the Week

Posted by George Cushnie On June - 30 - 2012
It's time for the third edition of ''Stars of the Week,'' where I choose the five things (or people) that I was happiest with in the world of WWE this week (ending June 30th, 2012).As with every list or article that I write, I've made these choices because they were the five things (or people) that impressed me most this week. Before I get into this week's stars, I want to make it clear that the choices I've made are deliberate and I haven't left anyone or anything out. There's a reason why I've made these five choices. It's because they're what ...

Posted by Mike Chiari On June - 30 - 2012
With one of the WWE's biggest pay-per-views of the year,  a couple weeks away  in the form of Money in the Bank, the top storylines are starting to take shape in anticipation of the show. The Money in the Bank ladder matches for the WWE and world heavyweight championships, respectively, are at least partially set, and many of the qualifiers are quite surprising. On top of that, the WWE championship match between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan is set, and the saga that is Sheamus and the world heavyweight championship continues. Also, it was announced that a major superstar would make his on-screen ...

WWE: Special Events Likely to Bring Title Changes, Memorable Moments

Posted by Robert Aitken On June - 30 - 2012
It's no secret that WWE tends to keep significant moments in storylines and great title changes for live events to be seen worldwide. That's what the big draw for pay-per-views is all about: many championships are put up for grabs and you never quite know when a championship can go from one superstar to another in a matter of moments. The occasional title change at a house show is often done out of necessity, usually from an injury, firing or suspension of a champion. Even still, those are often held off for a televised event so everyone can see it.Smackdown isn't ...
This is the second of the five-part video series counting down the 50 greatest wrestlers of all time. In case you missed the first part and want to be caught up, click here to see 50-41.As expected, when the first 10 wrestlers from the countdown were revealed, there was a lot of feedback. Some good, some bad, but all productive. The previous article states the criteria considered for the rankings, but to recap, I used the five-point system:- Appearance- In-Ring Ability- Mic Skills- Flair/Demeanor- GimmickNot every wrestler in the rankings has all five of these qualities. In fact, very few ...
